Frequently asked questions
RoofEXT is a plant based spray-on solution used to treat asphalt shingles that dries clear. Applying our proprietary solution every 5 years will lengthen the lifespan of a shingle roof for 10-15 years; Plus RoofEXT typically costs less than 20% of the cost of a roof replacement.
How Does RoofEXT Work?
RoofEXT uses a proprietary, revolutionary solution that works to restore your asphalt roof. It soaks old, brittle shingles with millions of microbeads of all-natural plant-based oil to restore their flexibility and prepare them to better protect your home. Just one RoofEXT application is guaranteed to add five years of life to your asphalt roof. And with repeat applications every five years, you can expect up to 15 years of added life to your asphalt roof.
If you want to get into the nitty-gritty, here it is: Asphalt shingles contain natural oils that allow its expansion and contraction, it is this constant expansion and contraction that allow asphalt shingles to protect your roof as it should. Over time, however, this oil evaporates, and the asphalt shingles dry out and lose their flexibility, along with its top protective layer of granules.
This leads to shingles being brittle, cracking, breaking, molding, staining, and/or curling, making your home much more vulnerable to damage.
RoofEXT ECOspray adds a new protective plant-based oil to your asphalt shingles, turning them closer to their original state. With this added oil, RoofEXT brings back your shingles flexibility, color, and pliability. It protects your shingles, and with it your home, for an added 5 years, guaranteed.
Is RoofEXT Safe?
Yes. RoofEXT is completely safe for people, pets, property, and the environment.
RoofEXT uses an innovative, eco-friendly soy fusion formula that has been validated and tested by Intertek, a third-party independent testing facility. It was determined that is completely safe for humans and pets, as well as friendly with the environment and your property.
When Should I Treat My Asphalt Shingles With RoofEXT?
The best time to treat asphalt shingles with RoofEXT is when the roof tiles start to show signs of drying out and losing their flexibility.
If you live in a southern climate, this can happen when your roof is around 6-8 years old, if you live in a northern climate, it would show deteriorating signs at around 8-10 years old. We suggest contacting your local RoofEXT dealer to get a proper inspection. Our trained dealers can estimate how much life is left in your roof, and whether it is the right time to apply RoofEXT and add five years of life to it.
Your roof might be older than 6-10 years old, if that’s the case, there’s no need to worry. While older roofs may require a few repairs before we can treat them, we often apply RoofEXT to roofs around 15-20 years old, and we have even been able to save some as old as 30.
How Long Does A RoofEXT Treatment Take?
Every roof has its unique requirement, but, on average, a RoofEXT treatment takes between 30 minutes at the least and a few hours at the most. The time it takes to apply the treatment will depend on the size of your roof and the state and condition of your roof and asphalt shingles.
Our local technicians will be able to give you a precise, customized estimate. Before beginning the process of applying the RoofEXT treatment, our technicians will inspect your roof to determine its condition. After properly examining your roof, our technicians will be able to provide you an accurate estimate for how long the application of the RoofEXT treatment will take.
Smaller roofs that are clean and in good repair, other than brittle and inflexible shingles, can usually be finished in as little as a half hour. The RoofEXT treatment will take longer, up to several hours, if the technician notes any issues that require additional steps to prepare the asphalt roof for treatment. This pretreatment tune-up may include removing debris such as sticks or leaves, sealing exposed nails, and securing loose flashing. All of these need to be done before RoofEXT can be applied.
There may be some additional problems or repairs needed before RoofEXT can be applied. We will examine your roof for problems and leaks, let you know if there are any problems, and make recommendations for fixing them. Weather, sunshine, and age can have a damaging effect on your roof, with problems ranging from debris damage to leaking.
What Are The Weather Requirements For RoofEXT?
In order for our RoofEXT ECOspray solution to fully penetrate the shingles and soak into the asphalt, weather conditions must be dry, with temperatures above 36℉. We also need to apply 45-60 mins prior to rainstorms.
While dry weather is required for applying RoofEXT, it shouldn’t be a problem if it rains an hour or more after the treatment. Depending on your climate, it can take 30 minutes to an hour for the treatment to soak in. RoofEXT will penetrate the shingles and fully soak into the asphalt within one hour, leaving your roof fully treated and protected from the elements. Once it has soaked into the asphalt tiles, our treatment cannot be washed away by rain.
What Does RoofEXT’s 5-Year Warranty Cover?
RoofEXT is proud to offer you a five-year warranty. We guarantee that the asphalt shingles we treat will remain flexible for at least five years from the date of treatment.
Our warranties are fully transferable without restrictions. It remains valid even if the shingle manufacturer’s warranty is void because of transfer restrictions, time or any other limitation included in manufacturers’ warranties.
RoofEXT's Environmental Impact
More than 10 million tons of non-biodegradable asphalt ends up in landfills every year. While asphalt shingles can absolutely be recycled, only around 9% end up getting recycled into other things, such as the necessary ingredients for asphalt roads. This low percentage seems to be connected to the cost of the recycling process and a lack of asphalt-recycling facilities. It’s also much easier to simply discard used up shingles into dumps and landfills. When asphalt is dumped into a landfill, it will sit there for many, many decades because it isn’t biodegradable.
Approximately 7 percent of U.S. roofs are replaced every year. If 1 percent of single-family homes (about 15 percent of yearly replacements) applied our SMEE (Soy Methyl Ester Emulsion) formula instead of replacing their roofs, we could avoid 5.6 billion pounds of landfill waste and 1.1 million metric tons of CO2 equivalents in emissions.
RoofEXT's Technology and Validation
In order to validate the formula works in all environments RoofEXT worked in conjunction with InterTek a third-party independent testing facility with a network of more than 1,000 laboratories and offices and over 46,000 people in more than 100 countries. InterTek delivers innovative and bespoke Assurance, Testing, Inspection and Certification solutions for customers’ operations and supply chains.
InterTek was able to validate the process on old and new shingles. The testing results proved RoofEXT rejuvenates the flexibility and water permeation of the old shingles to those of newer shingles while also adding additional shingle strength during the impact testing, that would be a result from natural hail damage.
